YouTube is the world’s most popular site for streaming videos. It was founded in 2005, and is so popular that 72 hours of content are uploaded every minute today. It was originally for amateurs to have a place to post their videos, but has since expanded so much that it is now a platform where people create and make a living from original content.

Whatsapp is the leading cross-platform site that allows users to essentially use in place of texting. They can send videos, messages, GIFs, etc. It gained a lot of popularity among groups that have limited text messaging, and maintained a large following even as phone plans started coming with better limits.

  1. What is a demographic and what role do they play on social platforms? Demographics refer to the types of groups of people that view content. Demographics can be split many ways; by age ranges, gender identity, race, etc. Knowing what demographic is viewing the content of a site is important because it helps the admins know how to filter content in order to appeal to the largest amount of people. Demographics are usually determined by polls posted by admins or moderators.

  1. What demographics stand out among these sites the most?

Demographics most associated with the most popular streaming services have to do with age range over most other things. I have personal experience with being polled about my age group.

  1. What is the average amount of time logged for each of these popular sites as of 2020?

Facebook: on average, people spend about 58 minutes of their day on Facebook.

YouTube: on average, people spend about 40 minutes of their day on YouTube.

Whatsapp: on average, people spend about 28 minutes of their day on Whatsapp.
