Where Can You Turn for Help Blog Assignment

Oftentimes, if I find myself needing to learn how to do something, I look it up via YouTube. YouTube has become an indispensable learning/teaching tool for everything from Photoshop to how to change a car tire, and the library continues to expand every day. Now, while YouTube offers good face value lessons on tasks, I wouldn’t say you could become an expert just by watching videos alone. For example, if I’m looking up how to make bread and learn from a YouTube video, that doesn’t make me a chef. That doesn’t even mean I learned how to make bread. I just followed along until the task was done.

In my quest to learn how to make my own carb-y goodness, I found three different sources for some recipes, each varying in popularity. The first was, of course, YouTube. One of my absolute favorite YouTubers is a popular cooking channel called Binging with Babish, and he does a spinoff series known as Basics with Babish. It was in this spinoff that he details different ways to make homemade bread. His information is thorough and generally well-received with 61,000 likes, and the video is only two years old, having been posted in 2018. And though the host does shun the title of chef, he does offer a really comprehensive teaching experience, so I would say that I would use him for future recipes.

The next source that I looked for was the classic standby; Allrecipes. I have referred back to the website dozens of times, for everything from sugar cookies to butternut squash soup. What makes it particularly attractive to me is that the recipes are sorted by which has the most likes, the most popular and well-reviewed recipes appearing at the top of the page. The people who make these posts are usually just hobbyists like me, and not renowned pastry-chefs, but their recipes are still good. The recipe I selected has over 900 ratings, and as best as I can tell, looks like it was posted in 2003. Somewhat less recent, but a good recipe is timeless!

And the third source I found is the most recent. Posted January 1, 2020, the site is called Sally’s Baking Addiction. This was my least favorite of the three, one reason why being the page layout. It’s unpleasant to look at, and not very well organized until you scroll all the way to the bottom. I seriously doubt I will be referring back to this one in the future. But, at the very least, there are reviews and ratings to have a look at, and the recipe itself seems solid. That being said, out of all three options, Allrecipes is the one I will most likely be using from now on, as biased as that might sound.
