What’s Next – Future Tech

A technology that has always interested me is the technology used in the Tesla. It has so many new and different features that makes it unique from every other car. There’s no physical buttons or switches, only a big screen, so everything in the car uses technology. The main thing I’m most interested in when it comes to the Tesla, is the autopilot. I can’t seem to wrap my mind around the fact that a car can, safely, drive itself.

  1. Autopilot, or “automatically steering,” is a feature in every Tesla where the car will drive itself. The Tesla has eight cameras around the body of the car giving 360 degree vision and can sensor up to 250 meters in range. The cameras and sensors allow the car to maneuver around objects.  Autopilot is able to make the car steer, accelerate, and brake all on its own. Driver supervision is needed but besides that, that car does everything else. “All you will need to do is get in and tell your car where to go.”
  2. The Tesla is founded by entrepreneurs Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning. They started as CEO and CFO of the company, which was named after inventor Nikola Tesla. Now, Elon Musk now holds the position of CEO of Tesla.
  3. One problem autopilot could solve is helping nervous drivers get around. There are people who don’t feel comfortable driving on the highway, and autopilot would solve this problem by having the car drive for them. It could also prevent people who may have been drinking, or are too tired to drive to make it home safely.
  4. Because there isn’t an actual person driving during autopilot, it definitely should be questioned how safe it actually is. There are always chances for malfunctions when it comes to technology and the same thing could happen when using autopilot.
  5. Tesla claims that “autopilot is safer than a human driver in average driving conditions.” If this is true, if more people own cars with autopilot (like the Tesla), less accidents would occur and driving would be safer.
