3D Printing, it isn’t necessarily recent to this year, but it has become more useful and easy to use in teh recent years. 3D printing or additive manufacturing is making three-dimensional objects from a digital file. To 3D print an object, an additive process is used. In an additive process, an object is created by laying down layers of material until there is a finished structure. Each of these layers can be seen as a thinly sliced cross-section of the object. There are lots of different forms of hardware and software for 3D printing. The hardware consists of many kinds of printers, all with different abilities, as well as many filaments. The many softwares consist of different websites and apps, used for designing the structure meant to be printed, and digital communities that share their already made designs for the printing of others. 3D printing is currently available to the public in many versions. Charles Hull is the inventor of stereolithography, also commonly known as 3D printing. Many people use this for printing objects they require making life easier, such as something I saw recently which was a larger cupholder for a car. I have also seen it used rather than to make life easier but to have more creative freedom with hobbies such as cosplay, where they could make a fabric with 3D printed scales coming from it. There are also medical problems that can be solved through 3D printing, currently lots of research is being done on how to 3D print genetic material! There are some basic drawbacks, such as its heavy use of plastic, and the loss of manufacturing jobs. However, I also fear that the public use of 3D printing could become dangerous if people decide to print weapons using a strong enough filament, such as firearms that are undetectable to metal detectors, though it’s unlikely given the kinds of materials available to the public. With widespread adoption of this technology, I believe that what we are seeing now will be amplified, people will use 3D printers in everyday life and most houses would have their own..
