Week 12 Mobile apps Blog Post
Here is my blog post for the discussion of 2 popular apps. I’m going back to my normal, informal speech, since, in my last post, I confused my instructor into thinking I plagiarized or had my mom write it (Sorry…) (Also, my electricity is out at my house, so this may be a bit late.)
The first app I am going to talk about is Zedge. Zedge is an app that helps you customize your phone, via wallpaper, ringtones and notification jingles. If I had to give this app a target audience, I would mostly likely say teenagers and young adults, however I know a lot of people from differing demographics, who all use this app.
In 2020, Zedge had a revenue increase by 7.4 percent, to 9.5 million dollars. Income from the app’s paid subscription increased by 932 percent, from 0.2 million to 1.6 million dollars. The best way to use Zedge is to take advantage of its save feature. That way, if you have previously found a ringtone or wallpaper you really like, you can save it to your “saved” tab and make sure you don’t lose it.
The second app I’m taking about is Among Us. Among Us is a popular mobile and PC game similar to the game Mafia. The main target audience for Among Us seems to be teenagers and adults, but the app has an ESRB rating of E10+ on Google Play, and as a result, it is also played by kids.
Innersloth originally published Among Us in 2018, but the game flew under the radar really hard and it was almost impossible to play the game online, due to the lack of players. However, the game got its fame around August of 2020, after being promoted by various popular Twitch streamers. The game gathered a revenue of at least 3.8 million dollars in the month of September. The best way to play Among Us is to play with your friends, using a communication service, such as Discord, Skype or Zoom. Playing in public lobbies with random players, you are not able to use your voice to talk and would have to use the in-game chat system, which can be a challenge, especially if you aren’t fast at typing.
