Week 10 – Mobile Apps
As technology evolves, so does what we utilize. A lot of this is social media and applications that we use on our mobile devices. Currently, the two most popular apps are TikTok and Instagram; both are social media apps that let you share the content of your choosing!
TikTok is a social media app for creating, sharing, and viewing short videos. The app is used by young people as an outlet to express themselves through a variety of different video genres and allows users to create videos and share them across the app. The target audience would be young people, typically around the ages of 15-25; so mainly the high school to college student range.
When it comes to revenue within TikTok, it can vary based on how popular you are within the app. This is all done from the Creator Fund feature that creators can participate in while they create videos for the community. This can be an average of $9-$38 a day for these creators. So, they can still make money by creating whatever genre of videos that they do and make a living by being a content creator.
Instagram is also a social media app! However, it is a free photo/video sharing app available on multiple device platforms. People can upload photos/videos and share them with their followers or via direct message to certain people. They can also view, comment and like posts shared on their Instagram feed or explore page. The target audience is a younger demographic, just like TikTok. The age range for Instagram is typically 16-24 they like to share photos/videos to their own personal accounts.
Revenue can still happen with Instagram, on average Instagram user makes up to $2,970 per month! Which is about as much as a part-time to an almost full-time job. “Micro-influencers (accounts with one thousand to ten thousand followers earn on average $1,420 per month, and mega-influencers (accounts with over one million followers) earn about $15,356 per month.” (,). This means that you could even make more money depending on how popular you are and how many followers you currently have. When it comes to thinking about making money off of Instagram, it can be a long build-up to make it!
The tips and tricks can come pretty easily with both apps. TikTok and Instagram run pretty similarly when it comes to trends. The trick to both apps is to jump on trends when they are currently popular, along with using the right hashtags in order to get to the right audience! This can help boost popularity on both apps, that way you can get a jump to your content career!
