Week 9 – The Cloud

iCloud is used for online storage, allowing information and data to be distributed through different devices that one owns. Microsoft OneDrive is the cloud storage service that Microsoft offers to store all your files in one place. Essentially they are about the same system with different names and brands that they deal with.

ICloud would not work as well if it was not in the cloud, mainly due to it being Apple’s cloud-based system and you can use any device in order to upload data. Without that, it would have to be through a wired connection in order to transfer your information. This goes the same for Microsoft OneDrive, the main benefit of both services is that you can use multiple services under one account; without that, it comes with the hassle of keeping everything under control and under one system.

The advantage of using iCloud is that if you ended up having a device lost or stolen, you are able to recover your information easily on a new device. “You can upload, share and store documents and data and then access the docs and data from any computer with a web browser.” (DeAgonia, 2017). This comes in helpful for those who need to transfer data across iCloud. Microsoft OneDrive has access to unlimited file access, anytime. It also supports multimedia and has an organizational platform for files. 

When it comes to security, I feel like it is the same risk that someone takes whenever entering their information into Amazon or other online shopping services. It takes your information just the same, therefore, to me there is the same risk. However, I feel like my information is safe on Amazon, just like it is on the two cloud services above; personally, I do not find that I have any security concerns when it comes to using iCloud and Microsoft OneDrive.
