Content Management Systems

A content management system, or CMS, is software that helps people create, manage, and modify a website without having to know how to code a website. You can also use mobile CMS for mobile apps but it is more generally known for websites.

HTML/CSS is another effective way to code and design a website, just like CMS. However, HTML requires the knowledge of coding and does have different ways to learn everything; CMS makes it more user-friendly. A couple of pros of using HTML are you often have more control over the SEO (search engine optimization) aspect of web design and you can design your website exactly how you would like to show it. The cons of using HTML are that it will take a lot longer to build your site and if one thing is out of place in your code, you will have to find the issue and fix it or it could break your website in an instant! Which can lead to longer work times or even stress. Now, a couple of pros of using CMS are that it is much more organized than an HTML site and you have the option of add-ons to your website and choose from a wide array of functions. A con for CMS is that sometimes you will not be able to have more freedom with designs, you might only be able to pick from a few and it will not be as original as you would like. Right now, lots of new website designers are using CMS due to make it easier for them to update frequently or if they are making a larger website with multiple pages, it is easier to design and create. (Marketing, 2019).

CMSs impact the web design industry by making it easier for people to make websites on their own, instead of having web developers take over and getting paid for it. In a way, CMSs take jobs away from web developers because it simply replaces them in the process. It takes their job and makes it so that the client can make it on their own – taking out the middle man.
