Cloud service
The two cloud base systems that I use most frequently are Steam Cloud and Apple iCloud. “Steam Cloud allows games and the platform to utilize cloud storage hosted by Steam. Games can utilize Steam Cloud for storage of many different types of data, including game settings, save games, profile stats and other user-specific bits.” (1). Individuals do have profile settings where sensitive data is stored such as bank account information. “These settings will persist on an account regardless of which machine it is logged into, as the settings are pulled from the cloud upon login.”(2)
- Would this application/system work as well NOT in the cloud?
I don’t see how it would work if not based in the cloud; it defeats the the concept.
- What are the advantages to having this system on a distributed network?
The advantage is I can log on from any device and pick up from where I left off.
- Do you have any security or privacy concerns when using this system?
No, as long as you have a decent password. If not, someone could see previous payment transactions.
The second cloud base system I use is AppleiCloud. Most people use it for home use. “Apple’s cloud service is primarily used for online storage, backup, and synchronization of your mail, contacts, calendar, and more, as well as file synchronization between your Macs and iOS devices.” (3) I use an iPad, Mac laptop and iPhone. All my data is synchronized within the iCloud and I can access it across my Apple devices. I use macOS and Pages for for my schoolwork. iPhones also come with Find My iPhone which utilizes the iCloud.
- Would this application/system work as well NOT in the cloud?
No, because the Find My iPhone feature couldn’t be utilized if not for the GPS within the iCoud. - What are the advantages to having this system on a distributed network?
The advantage is it works with apple devices from
anywhere with your Apple ID. - Do you have any security or privacy concerns when using this system?
No, because I use two-factor authentication.
I use both of the cloud base systems frequently and I would say that due to the ease of use, it outweighs the cons of security issues for my purposes.
