Rich Content Editor Updates

External Link Icon, Download File Icon, Focus Ring Around Content Match Link Color -Rich Content Editor, Theme Editor, Course Content, User Content

Summary

The external link icon and download file icon that appear next to external links and files match the link color. Additionally, the focus ring that displays when tabbing through content matches the link color in the institution’s theme.

Change Benefit

This update allows branding consistency, improved accessibility, and makes the icons visible and consistent when the link color is changed in the Rich Content Editor (e.g. using a white link on a dark background).

View Focus Ring

When a user uses the Tab key with focusable content, the focus ring around the content matches the institution’s theme color.

 

Raw and Pretty HTML Editor Links to Buttons Update – Rich Content Editor

Summary

The Raw HTML Editor and the Pretty HTML Editor links have been updated to Switch to raw HTML Editor and Switch to pretty HTML Editor buttons.

This update allows for improved accessibility in the Rich Content Editor.

Summary

In the Rich Content Editor, when a user replaces an image with a Course or User image, the style, height, and width are retained.

Editing User Profile and Communication Checkboxes


Summary: 
In the Root Account, admin can disable users from editing communication channels. Additionally, when profiles are enabled by an institution, admin can disable users from editing their profiles. The Users can edit their profiles and Users can edit their communication channels settings are enabled by default.

Change Benefit: This update provides admin the ability to manage profiles and communication channels for non-admin users.

In the Root Account Settings, click the Users can edit their profile or Users can edit their communication channels checkbox to disable these features.

Note: If a Profile tab is not visible in the user navigation menu, this feature has not been enabled for the institution.

Summary:
Admin can search users by an integration ID.

Additional Details: Currently, integration_id cannot be used to search for users in other accounts in a Consortium.

Summary: In the Rich Content Editor, the status bar Word Counter displays a detailed view of words and characters.

Change Benefit: This update provides users fast access to view a detailed view of the word count.

Summary:

Rich Content Editor

Rich Content Editor Supports the Pasting and Drag and Drop of Content [Feature Delayed as of 2022-12-08]


Summary: 
The Rich Content Editor (RCE) supports the pasting and drag and drop of content. Users can copy and paste an image from a browser or photo viewing app in the RCE. Also, users can copy an image, audio, or video file from a file system directory viewer such as the macOS Finder or Windows File Explorer and paste it in the RCE. Additionally, users can drag a file from the local filesystem and drop it in the RCE. If a course or group requires usage rights, when pasting a file in the RCE, the File Upload modal displays to select usage rights before uploading and displaying in the RCE. When dragging and dropping an image from the web, an HTML IMG tag referencing the file at its location on the web is inserted into the RCE. This may or may not display the image for other users depending on the public visibility of the source image.

Change Benefit: This update provides users with additional options when adding content to the Rich Content Editor.

Additional Details: Due to the security features in browsers, using the RCE Edit menu Paste link continues to display a pop-up alert. Pasting content requires the Command+V, Control+V or Paste from the browser’s context menu.

Import and Copy Blueprint Course Settings


Summary: 
In Course Settings, an Import Blueprint Course Settings checkbox is available when copying a Blueprint course using Copy this Course or Import Course content, Copy a Canvas Course to an existing Blueprint course.

Change Benefit: This update provides admins and instructors the option to include Blueprint course settings when copying a Blueprint course without having to manually update the course.
