Content Management Systems Blog

In today’s age, companies, businesses, and individuals all need to create and manage a website that is easily accessible and usable. There are many things these people can do such as hiring someone else to code your website, having an AI do it, or doing it yourself, but the best way an individual can create a successful website is to incorporate the use of a Content Management System (CMS). According to Kinsta, a content management system is software that allows users to create, manage, and change content on a website easily and without the need for any technological knowledge or experience such as coding or any other means. Some examples of CMS’s are WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, Squarespace. Overall, a CMS will greatly impact the creation of a website positively.

Even though a CMS is helpful in most cases of web development, there are some drawbacks and positives of using a CMS compared to the use of coding using HTML and CSS. The disadvantages of using a CMS could serve a massive security risk unless it is well maintained and updated, requires some training, and could have compatibility issues. Even though the use of a CMS has its drawbacks, it also has its advantages. If an individual doesn’t know how to use code like HTML and CSS, they could use a CMS to make their dream come to life. HTML and CSS are the foundations of a website, if someone knows how to use these coding languages, then they could save time and even money because they won’t have to pay for any CMS’s. The drawback of using HTML and CSS would be the frustration of coding a website and losing or spending more time. I don’t believe that there is “the best” current practice. If someone has the money, they should shoot for a CMS, if someone is efficient in HTML and CSS, then they should just code their own website.

The argument of ai and machines taking jobs from humans has long formed ever since the invention of even the wheel. People argue that CMS’s will lose people jobs and destroy the industry, but the reality of it is, AI and machines cannot recreate what the highly skilled web developers can do. There were many CMS founded like Wix in 2006, if CMS would take over, they should have already done it by now. CMS is only a tool to help web developers and should not be heavily relied upon.
