AR/VR/MR – Future Tech

250-500 word

Cutting edge technology that I am interested in is AR/VR/MR.

  1. Explain the tech; what is it, how does it work, what hardware, software, and network does it need? Is it currently available to the public? AR/VR/MR all works differently to each other but serve a similar purpose; to create a different or altered reality. VR works by combining two flat images perceived by each eye. These images can be created from the computer. Motion tracking is used on most VR headsets as well. AR works by combining elements from the real-world environment for example your room as well as digital elements created from computers. It is mostly an overlay of digital elements. Mixed reality is similar to augmented reality. MR combines both digital and physical elements, but the user is able to interact with those elements. Hardware that is required is some sort of device or headset that is capable of running VR/AR/MR. Software that you might need is software that is given to you from the creators of the headset you obtained. Depending on what a user intends to use VR/AR/MR for, you may or may not need the use of the internet.
  2. Who (or what) invented or pioneered the technology? The first virtual reality headset was created in 1068 by Ivan Sutherland and his student, Bob Sproull.
  3. What “problem” does it solve for its users? VR/AR/MR solved the issue of being immersed in videos, video games, movies, etc by immersing the user into the environment.
  4. Are there any potential drawbacks or dangers of using the tech? Potential drawbacks or dangers of using VR/AR/MR is eye strain, and users spending too much time in the space.
  5. Offer one example of how widespread adoption of this technology might impact society. One example of how a widespread adoption of this technology might impact society is an increase in educational benefits. Let’s say someone who is stuck at home for whatever reason doesn’t feel like they are learning or cannot learn without being in that classroom setting, VR/AR/MR could completely fix this issue.

Mobile Apps

Two popular apps are Tik Tok and Instagram.

Tik Tok

Tik Tok is an app that is mainly used for entertainment. It allows users to post videos and pictures, interact with other posts, and allows for connecting with others. According to Shopify, Tik Tok’s target audience are users between 18-24. The target audience makes around 40% of all users on the platform. According to on FeedDough, Tik Tok’s main revenue stream is from Tik Tok ads, In-Feed Video Ads ( ads that appear as the user scrolls ), Brand Takeover Ads, Top-View Ads, Branded Hashtag Challenges, branded effects, commision from content creators, and investors.

In order to get the most out of the app, follow creators you enjoy watching, participate in creator live streams and trends, and create videos. Tik tok has opportunities that no other app has. The Cloud – Cloud Services Review

Cloud-based applications that I use in my daily life is google drive and one drive.

Google drive is a cloud based application that can provide encrypted and secure access to files.
This system would not work in the outside the cloud because the cloud makes google drive work.
Advantages to having this system on a distributed network is easier file sharing, file saving, and transfers. The only security concern when using this system is that if someone where to have access to your gmail account, they can have all of your files. The privacy concern that google drive has is that google can view your files.

Onedrive is a cloud-based application created by microsoft that keeps files protected, synced, and accessible on all your devices. Similar to Google Drive, this system wouldn’t work outside of the cloud because the cloud makes this service work. Advantages of having this system on a distributed network is the ability to share photos and videos with friends, file transfering, file saving, and file sharing. Privacy and security concerns that deal with one drive is malicious hackers, and Microsoft being able to see your files. Like Google Drive, Onedrive can be used on a mobile device and a desktop device.

Understanding Social Media Demographics

1. What were the top three social media sites, in terms of traffic, in 22-23? List them in order of popularity.  The top three social media sites in terms of traffic in 22-23 is Facebook with 2.98 billion monthly active users, Youtube with 2.52 billion, and WhatsApp and Instagram tieing in for 2 Billion.

2. Provide a brief summary of how each social media site works and why people use it. Facebook is a website that allows users to connect with friends, work colleagues, or people they don’t even know. It allows people to share pictures, opinions, music, etc. People use Facebook because it allows them to connect to friends or strangers in a way that wouldn’t be accessible as easily in real life. Youtube allows it’s users to share videos that other users can watch, like, share and comment. Youtube is used because it allows people to share their own creative ideas, thoughts, and emotions through a video format. WhatsApp uses the internet to send messages. People might want to use What’sApp because they might not have texting services on their phone plan. Instagram is similar to facebook, it allows its users to share their own thoughts, creative videos, and anything they really wanted.

3. What are “demographics” and why is it important in social media? Demographics in a social media context are typically the active or current users on a social media site, or the statistical data relating to the population and particular groups within it. This could be a user’s age, location, ethnicity, etc. It is important in social media because using that information, you could share your thoughts, videos, or ideas to a broader audience.

4. Explain any demographics that stand out among the three social media sites you listed above. (More popular with a specific age group, are majority of users male or female, married or single, employees or self-employed, etc.) Demographics that stand out between the three social media sites I listed was that 31.6% of Instagram users are in between the ages of 18 to 24, whilst Facebook has percent of 22.6, Youtube having 15%, and WhatsApp having a whopping 84%.

5. On average, how much time do users spend on each social media site during a day, week or month? Provide a resource that supports your answer. According to eMarketer Instagram has a usage of 33.1 minutes per day and Facebook having 30.9 minutes a day. According from statistics from Oberlo Youtube has an average of 47.5 minutes a day (23.75 hours a month).

6. Which of the three social media networks is growing the fastest? Why do you think that is? I believe that out of the top three social media networks, Youtube is growing the most because many new users are coming every day to post content, and consume videos. There will always be a need for this type of entertainment.

7. How are the majority of visitors accessing these three sites (computer, mobile device, tablet)?  According to Statista, 98.5% of active Facebook users are using mobile devices such as phones and tablets, 81.8% access Facebook only through a mobile phone, 16.7%  access Facebook through phones and computers, and 1.5% access Facebook only through a laptop or desktop computer. According to a poll from Android Authority,
user usage from tv’s, 11% usage from tablets, 29% usage from computers, and 39% from smartphones. According to Statista 98% of Instagram users access it from their phones, the remainder two percent is from desktops.

Cybersecurity & Wellness

The internet lets users connect and communicate on a vast level. Although the internet allows for such communication and connections, there are many cases which show bad online behavior such has cyberbullying, hate speech, and general misconduct. Today, we’ll go over a couple stories of misconduct and how it can affect both the villainized, and the villains and how we can further protect our selves using lessons from these stories.

Warning : This blog showcases the death of a minor

Jessica Logan was young, blond-haired and blue-eyed Ohio high school senior who commited suicide after her sexts sent to her boyfriend was leaked after they broke up together. She was cruelly harrassed for months by her classmates at school, who called her vicious names. Jessica would start skipping school and hide in the bathrooms in order to avoid being teased by her peers. She told her story on a Cincinnati television and her purpose was to make sure no one had to go through what she did. A couple of months later, she attended a funeral of a boy who took his own life, and took her life when she got home. The bullies, the boyfriend, and all the other classmates were not charged for any criminal accounts. This is a tragic tale of a unfair and unjustified incident.
Things we can learn from this is to check in on our loved ones and be careful what we send to people.

Another example of bad online behavior is when an online dispute between two people playing videos resulted in a death of an innocent person from a Wichita Police Officer.  On December, 2017, a fatal swatting incident occurred in Wichita, Kansas. Swatting is a criminal charge that is defined as an act of deceiving an emergency service into sending a police or emergency service response team to another person’s address. The incident involved four people, Andrew Thomas Finch, Tyler Raj Barriss , Shane Gaskill, and Casey Viner,  . Casey Viner threatened to swat Shane Gaskill after an argument between them in the  game Call of Duty: World War II. In response, Gaskill gave him a fake address for his home, which Andrew Finch, a innocent , occupied. Viner then instructed Tyler Barriss to place the necessary fictional call in order to start the swatting. When the Wichita Police arrived at the location, Finch was shot and killed by police officer Justin Rapp as he was leaving his home because he believed Finch was motioning to grab a weapon. Barriss was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison, Viner was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment, Gaskill was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment, and Officer Rapp was not charged for Finch’s death.

As we use the internet, we cannot ensure safety on the internet, but we could have ways to prevent or lesson the chance of bad behavior. We must learn that all of our actions have consequences and even innocent people can be harmed.

Privacy, Security, Hacks, and Leaks

Any flourishing corporation will have risks such as privacy, security, hacks, and leaks, although these threats are inevitable, there are solutions that will ease or even fix these risks, therefore increasing the likelihood of a successful business. My name is Philip Dang, and I am the CIO of a certain gourmet food retailer and we’ll go over the key information that will help a company prosper.

Since corporations like us make a vast amount of money, we must minimize threats that could damage our corporation. Five or more digital threats to our corporation include but are not limited to hackers, people with malicious intent, our own employees, unpatched operating systems that could be breached, using cloud services could be breached, data breaches, and many other digital risks. These risks and threats are significant because they could greatly affect or even destroy the business. The reason why hackers must be treated seriously is because they can send phishing emails, breach data and security, and add malware to our servers and computers. If they do this, then they can get valuable information about the business or even customers. It is important to secure customers’ information because if it were to get into a hacker’s hand, it could not only severely damage the reputation of a business, but also would sway customers and guests away from the business. A hacker might also target cloud services that are used by companies in order to gain access to data. It is harsh to say this, but even our own employees could be a risk factor in a business. They could provide unsatisfactory service, damage reputation, or even more malicious things like uploading malware to devices. All of these risks could severely damage business and should all be taken seriously.

Since we have been in the business for a while, we have amazing digital processes that aid in the process of business. Five digital processes our organization has in place is purchase orders, customer onboarding, loan and credit approval, transportation and logistics, transaction processing, information tracking, data collection, refunding,  and many other digital processes that save us time, money and provide better accuracy. Although these processes greatly aid business, it has its flaws. Many of these processes could be exploited and abused such as the loan and credit approval, purchase orders, information and data collection, and even refunding. Hackers or people with malicious intent could breach our digital processes by phishing emails, malware, or exploiting vulnerabilities in our software or website. Digital processes greatly improve sales and save time, but have many drawbacks that must be addressed.

As time goes on, new technology and possible digital threats rise. We must add or create things that fight against hackers or threats. Five or more things we can do now to keep our organization more safe, secure, and reliable is communication, create strong cyber habits, using VPN’s and our encrypted wifi, changing passwords regularly, 2FA (Two Factor Authentication), use of anti-viruses, backups, and password management systems. Communication will greatly protect the organization. Team members should communicate regularly with each other about phishing attacks or any other security risks. Team members should also create strong cyber habits and follow policy. Procedures we should implement are changing passwords regularly, never sharing and login information, checking links before we click on them, etc. We should all change our passwords every three weeks, or even use a trusted password management system like Lastpass. We should all be on VPN’s or our encrypted wifi network. All of our computers must have anti-virus software like Malwarebytes or Windows Defender.  We should store backups of our passwords, servers, etc in a secure location. We also should all be using 2FA (two factor authentication), like Microsoft or Google authenticator. We should have a strong and secure firewall for our networks. Generally, we are all good on these subjects, but we still need to practice a strong defense against hackers or any other wrong-doers.

Content Management Systems Blog

In today’s age, companies, businesses, and individuals all need to create and manage a website that is easily accessible and usable. There are many things these people can do such as hiring someone else to code your website, having an AI do it, or doing it yourself, but the best way an individual can create a successful website is to incorporate the use of a Content Management System (CMS). According to Kinsta, a content management system is software that allows users to create, manage, and change content on a website easily and without the need for any technological knowledge or experience such as coding or any other means. Some examples of CMS’s are WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, Squarespace. Overall, a CMS will greatly impact the creation of a website positively.

Even though a CMS is helpful in most cases of web development, there are some drawbacks and positives of using a CMS compared to the use of coding using HTML and CSS. The disadvantages of using a CMS could serve a massive security risk unless it is well maintained and updated, requires some training, and could have compatibility issues. Even though the use of a CMS has its drawbacks, it also has its advantages. If an individual doesn’t know how to use code like HTML and CSS, they could use a CMS to make their dream come to life. HTML and CSS are the foundations of a website, if someone knows how to use these coding languages, then they could save time and even money because they won’t have to pay for any CMS’s. The drawback of using HTML and CSS would be the frustration of coding a website and losing or spending more time. I don’t believe that there is “the best” current practice. If someone has the money, they should shoot for a CMS, if someone is efficient in HTML and CSS, then they should just code their own website.

The argument of ai and machines taking jobs from humans has long formed ever since the invention of even the wheel. People argue that CMS’s will lose people jobs and destroy the industry, but the reality of it is, AI and machines cannot recreate what the highly skilled web developers can do. There were many CMS founded like Wix in 2006, if CMS would take over, they should have already done it by now. CMS is only a tool to help web developers and should not be heavily relied upon.
