2. Facebook is a social media site where users can share written posts, photos, videos and links with the sole purpose of socializing with friends.

YouTube is a video sharing platform and social media site where users can upload video content and others can view, like and comment on said content.

Instagram is a Mobile social media application with the main function of uploading and sharing photos to their respective pages.

3. Demographics are statistics that categorize populations. For example, teenagers between the ages of 12-16 in the US would be a demographic commonly considered for usage of the mobile app TikTok. These statistics are important to social media for a multitude of reasons. Demographics inform marketing targets for the social media site itself, but also for the vendors wanting to advertise on their site. Demographics help marketing specialists develop their what their campaigns will be, who they represent and who they are attempting to market to.

4. For Facebook, the demographic that most stands out for Facebook traffic are Males, 25-34 years of age. The 2nd highest traffic by demographic are males, 18-24 years of age.

For YouTube, the demographic that stands out are also males, 25-34 years of age. The 2nd highest demographic on YouTube are males, 35-44 years of age.

Finally, for Instagram, the most common demographic using the app are Males, 18-24 years of age, and the 2nd largest group being males, 25-34 years of age.

5. The average person spends 33 minutes on Facebook, 29 minutes on Instagram, and a whopping 7 minutes and 29 seconds on YouTube as of 2022, the longest average time per session of all social media sites. Per month, users spend on average 18 hours and 50 mins on Facebook, 27 hours and 26 mins on YouTube, and 14 hours and 5o minutes on Instagram.

6. Of the three social media sites, Instagram is the fastest growing social media site. According to a new study, Instagram had the largest percentage of growth from 2023 to 2024 at 25.3% from the previous year. Instagram is likely growing rapidly due to the recent addition of Instagram Marketplace drawing users that wouldn’t have used the app as frequently before. Marketplace allows multiple vendors to list their merchandise on the online marketplace, getting their product in front of thousands of people each day. Users can access special deals and discounts if they purchase through the app, making it more appealing than buying directly from a vendor’s website.

Instagram- Because Instagram is firstly a mobile app, the majority of users are always going to be on the mobile version of the site. Officially, 98% of users are accessing the site via mobile.
