The State of Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board grants license to individuals seeking to work in the addictions field.

After successfully (C or better) taking SWA-111 Addiction Studies I you will be eligible to apply for the Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant Preliminary.  You will find all the resources to complete the application process, in the course and to the right on this page.  The education from this course is valid for five years, however we recommend that you start the application process immediately after completing the course.

We recommend that you IMMEDIATELY apply for the CDCA Preliminary upon completion of this course.

After successfully (C or better) taking SWA-251 Addiction Studies II, the education from that course applies toward the Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant Renewal.  Again, the education is valid for five years, however we recommend that you complete the application process immediately after completing that course.  You will find all the resources to complete this application process in the course and to the right on this page.

After completing SWA-251, if you have held the CDCA Preliminary for ten months, then it is time to apply for the CDCA Renewal. (mark your calendar if this has not happened yet!)
